Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital commenced on 13 March 1941, and was known as the 115th Heidelberg Military Hospital. The hospital was initially operated by the Army, and on site between 1942 and 1947 was 6th RAAF Hospital. On 19 May 1947, the hospital was handed over from the army to the Repatriation Commission and became known as Repatriation General Hospital Heidelberg and in the main treated returned servicemen and war widows. As was common at the time, Sue Course trained while living on site, with nursing education taught by Nurse Tutors. Her training was completed with three months at the Queen Victoria Hospital for paediatric experience and the Royal Women's Hospital for women's health. Sue continued in the nursing profession throughout her working and family life, eventually working in community health and palliative care.
