Accession[2013.0112] Business machines, office equipment and ephemera of the National Mutual Life Association of AustralasiaIdentifierUMA-ITE-2013011200019Scope and ContentThis heavy-duty calculating machine was used extensively in the field of actuarial science from the mid-1880s, and was in popular use in insurance firms. This style of machine was originally designed by Thomas de Colmar in France in the 1820s. By the 1880s this was the first to be manufactured in the UK. The machine is mounted in a lacquered mahogany case, and accompanied by a leather case (see reference 2013.0112.0109).
