He began his career as a sixteen year old office boy for a Melbourne merchant employer and also Secretary of the United Commercial Travellers' Association of Australia. From 1885, Davies was Secretary of the Association which had become one of the strongest fraternal organisations in Australia. He was also editor of both "Australasian Traveller" and "Australia Today" Davies died in 1931.
