Agent TypePersonActivities & OccupationsHistoriansHistoryIn the mid-1980s Carolyn Rasmussen wrote her MA preliminary thesis and her MA thesis (University of Melbourne) on the Australian Labour Party in the Melbourne Suburb of Coburg. She later published 'Challenging the Centre: the Coburg ALP Branch in the 1930s', Labour History, No. 54, May 1988, pp.47-63 for which she collected the photo- copied documents in this collection. They concern the 1940 by-election in which Charles Mutton ran as an Independent Labor candidate and won, beating the endorsed ALP candidate. This event was the outcome of the 1930s battle in Coburg between the predominantly left local branch members and the right Catholics. Mutton (of the left) held the seat for many years.
