The Dickson family had a long association with the Howey Estate as it administrator. R.W.S. Dickson senior was educated at Melbourne and Cambridge, and admitted to the Victorian Bar in 1894. He was a member of the firm Raynes Dickson, Kiddle & Briggs, a director of insurance and brewing companies, and attorney to the Howey Estate. His son, Raynes Waite Adrian Dickson, educated at Melbourne, entered the firm in 1933, took on the responsibility of the Howey Estate and saw it through to its winding-up by the successor firm of Raynes Dickson & Co.
