Shortly after, Reid died, leaving a widow, six daughters and a son, also Robert. Robert Reid went on to establish a wholesale softgoods business under the title of Robert Reid & Co Ltd which was originally registered in England in 1898. The business was incorporated in Melbourne on 21 Mar 1919 subsequently merging with David Murray Holdings Ltd in 1957 under the holding company Reid Murray Holdings Ltd. Reid Murray collapsed spectacularly in the early 1960s and was liquidated 31 May 1963.
