Giblin and Sir Douglas Copland, worked for the International Labour Organization in Montreal and Geneva, and held lectureships in Western Australia and at Melbourne, where he became Ritchie Professor of Economic Research in 1952. He was also involved with many branches of the arts and was appointed Chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Commission in 1973. Richard Downing died in office in 1975.
