Sir Laurence Hartnett, a Fellow of the Society since 1952, served as the Society's Honorary Corresponding Member for Victoria from 1960 to 1983 and founded the Society's first overseas chapter, the Victorian chapter, in 1972. From 1985 the Chapter awarded the RSA-Hartnett Medal in his honour. In 2006 the Chapter was amalgamated into the RSA Australia & New Zealand operating from New South Wales.
