Gardiner and Son. Frederick Sargood was born in 1834 and migrated to Australia with his family in 1850. He joined Sargood, King & Co. which his father established in 1852, managed the business in the Castlemaine district and in 1859 became a junior partner. The firm had prospered, extending its operations to other colonies including New Zealand in 1863. Sargood entered the Victorian Legislative Council in 1874 and held the seat of South Yarra from 1882 to 1901. A noted philanthropist, founder of the school cadet corps, commissioner and director of various banks and the builder of the mansion, Rippon Lea, Sargood died suddenly in 1903.Search records of this agent
