It became the Seamen's Union of Australasia in 1930 and the Seamen's Union of Australia in 1943 which it remained until 1991 when it amalgamated with the Waterside Workers' Federation of Australia to form the Maritime Union of Australia. It amalgamated with the Federated Marine Stewards and Pantrymen's Assoc. of Australasia in 1988 and the Professional Divers' Association of Australasia in 1991.
