He went to England in 1939, joined the R.A.F. and trained as a radar mechanic. In 1945 he returned to Czechoslavakia to set up a monitoring service, modelled on that of the B.B.C., and in 1948 emigrated to Australia. He worked at Electronic Industries Engineering, Leicester Street, Carlton, but soon went into business on his own account, founding Scope Soldering Irons, Keilor Road Essendon (later Scope Laboratories).
