George Stewardson was born in Yorkshire in 1874 later working as a brass moulder and ardent Unionist before coming to Australia. After the establishment of Brass Company the mid 1930s a company called Extruded Metals Pty Ltd was set up to provide financial support to the company. Extruded Metals had a contractural arrangement with Brass Company. In December 1959 Brass Company bought Extruded Metals and made it a subsiduary. The subsiduary ceased to have any function. At the same time the comapnies swapped names. The operating parent company became Extruded Metal Pty Ltd and the subsiduary became Brass Company.
