The company proceeded to attempt a major overhaul of plant and operations over the following years. However in 1994, following long term shortages of suitable copper concentrates, technical difficulties encountered during the plant upgrade, with attendant environmental concerns and industrial relations disputation the operation was curtailed. It has since been purchased by Japanese interests and operations are resuming.
