He trained at Mercer House and taught at Geelong College while commencing a B.A. course at Melbourne, later supporting his studies by working in the Student Records section of the University. He graduated in 1956 and spent a year in Archives at the National Library in Canberra, returning to Melbourne to commence an M.A. He was again employed by the National Library to carry out a survey of business records in Victoria for the Business Archives Council, and when the University established an Archives he was appointed foundation University Archivist, occupying the position from July 1960 to his retirement in November 1995. He was very active in National Trust matters and in the activities of the Carlton Association, set up to oppose the Housing Commission's efforts to clear 'slum' areas for high-rise public housing. He supported Carlton football team, and for many years wrote the column 'On the Wing With Wacker' for the Melbourne Times weekly. He part-owned and helped restore the delicensed London Tavern in Beechworth and was active in preservation activities in that region. Frank Strahan died 18 November 2003.Search records of this agent
