Ed. from the University of Melbourne and Diploma in French at the Sorbonne. He taught French in numerous high schools, later lecturing at the Melbourne Teachers' College and from 1931 to 1946 in the Education Faculty. In the following year Frederick became headmaster of Wesley College, Melbourne, and in 1957 was appointed Professor of Education. He retired in 1966 and to the end of his life was a sought-after speaker.
