In 1970 she joined the League of Women Voters, eventually becoming its treasurer and overseas representative. In 1973 she attended an International Alliance of Women meeting in New Delhi for the LWV. During the United Nations Decade for Women between 1975 and 1985, she attended UN conferences on women as part of the unofficial attendance of non-government organisations held simultaneously which were influential on UN policy. Pat also held positions in her local branch of the Liberal Party for many years.
