The Hospital was first set up at 239 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. It then moved to 189a-191 Lonsdale Street and then to the Australian College of Dentistry building at 193 Spring Street, Melbourne. The hospital was incorporated as the 'The Melbourne Dental Hospital' in 1890 under the provisions of the Hospitals and Charities Act. In 1899 the name was changed to 'The Dental Hospital Melbourne'. In 1969 a further name change occurred with the hospital being renamed 'The Royal Dental Hospital Melbourme'. From commencement the hospital was administered by a Council elected by Subscribers and Life Governors. In 1963 the hospital moved to new premises in Grattan Street, Parkville. The new facility strengthened ties with the Faculty of Dental Science and dental teaching. In 2005 the Hospital moved to 720 Swanston Street, Melbourne.
