Thompsons became famous for the manufacture of mining equipment and rolling stock, though recent years have seen increased concentration on the production of pumps. Later a subsidiary of Borg-Warner Australia Ltd., Thompsons merged in 1987 with Kelly & Lewis [q.v.], which itself was by 1995 owned by BTR Nylex, and by 1998 was a joint venture between Invensys and Flowserve Corporation
