Balcombe Griffiths studied at the Architecture Atelier at the University of Melbourne, and represented Architecture in many races for the Melbourne University Boat Club. He was also a member of the Melbourne University Rifles and the SRC. One of the founding partners of Yuncken Freeman Architects, he developed a focus on industrial and hospital architecture. Balcombe Griffiths was especially interested in practice management and professional standards, serving as Chairman of YFA for many years and as President of the Victorian Chapter of RAIA.
