It was funded by union affiliation fee and a State Government Grant. The Centre had an office in Trades Hall until its closure in 1988 and a branch office at Slater & Gordon Solicitors in Footscray. It was involved in various campaigns, lobbying and policy development over industry development, job creation, abolituion of youth wages, welfare and social security issues and the development of a log of claims for the unemployed. It became defunct in c.1986-1988.
