Ltd. in 1921. The company was born from its predecessors the McKay Harvesting Machinery Co. (1890), and the 1893 Harvester Co. Hugh McKay was appointed the governing director, and retained total control of the company until he died in 1926. The company however was plagued with industrial action. This was despite the introduction by McKay of pensions (1921), retirement allowances (1921), sick pay entitlements (1922), and a mortuary fund in 1924. During the 1930s H.V. McKay Pty. Ltd. merged with Massey Harris of Canada to produce H.V. McKay Massey Harris Pty. Ltd. This was followed by the acquisition of the remaining McKay family interests by the Canadian firm in 1955. The McKay family name was subsequently dropped and Massey Harris Ferguson was formed. The Australian subsidiary company Massey-Ferguson (Australia) Ltd followed in 1958.
