Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsClubs, social and culturalHistoryLate in 1956, Vance Palmer invited writers Frank Dalby Davison and Leonard Mann to discuss the idea of forming a club for dining and conversation. A larger meeting was subsequently arranged in January the following year and those present agreed to form a dining club called the Twenty Club. The foundation members included Frank Davison, Hume Dow, Brian Fitzpatrick, Len Mann, Alan Marshall, Frank Nicholls, Cameron Jackson, Vance Palmer, Arthur Phillips, Syd Rubbo, Peter Russo, Geoff Serle, Bernard Smith, Ian Turner, Judah Waten and Eric Westbrook. Members met monthly in a club or restaurant, usually in Carlton, and took it in turns to lead a discussion on their choice of topic. The club still flourishes in 2007.
