United Firefighters Union Of Australia, Federal Office
Description
Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsTrade UnionsHistoryEstablished by 1911 to represent all firemen (but not officers, who are now represented by the Professional Fire Brigade Officers' Association). The U.F.U.'s members now consist only of M.F.A. and C.F.A. employees and is a voluntary association of state unions, having failed to win federal registration despite attempts to do so, legislation prohibiting the classification of firefighting as as an industry. Firemen are covered by three organizations: the U.F.U. (comprising state unions); the National U.F.U. which organizes conferences etc. for the state unions, and the Fire Fighters' Union for civil firefighters, representative of all states, in the A.C.T.
