United Firefighters Union Of Australia, Victorian Branch
Description
Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsTrade UnionsHistoryEstablished by 1911 to represent all firemen (but not officers, who are now represented by the Professional Fire Brigade Officers' Association), The United Firefighters' Union was until 1990 a voluntary grouping of state unions whose origins date back to the turn of the century. The U.F.U.'s members now consist of M.F.A. and C.F.A. employees. The Union was denied federal registration until 1990 because of legislation prohibiting the classification of firefighting as as an industry. Federal registration was achieved in 1990.
