Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsUniversity administrationHistoryThe successor of the University Appointments Board, the Careers and Appointments Service was established by Statute 2.12 (15/12/ 81) to assist students and recent graaduates of the university to obtain employment, provide career advice, facilitate contact between potential employers and prospective employees, increase opportunities in the community for graduate employment, conduct and publish research on related matters and cooperate with other services. A department within the Registrar's Division, it nevertheless retained a Board, comprising the Vice-Chancellor, Vice-Principal, Registrar, and representatives of the academic staff, persons having a special interest in the employment of graduates in business or the public service, and students. The Board's role was to provide advice to the Council, recommend general policies, guide and advise the Service, and report on its activities to the Council. The Service and Board were abolished early in 1994, to be replaced by the Course and Careers Unit in the External Relations Department. In 1997 this became the Careers and Employment Liaison office, under the External Affairs Department.
