Agent TypeOrganisationIdentifierUMA-AG-000001589Activities & OccupationsUniversity committeeHistoryOn 2 April 1951 Council appointed a committee to report "from time to time on problems connected with the Centenary of the University and related matters (e.g. the visit this year of notable English jurists", and by August the committee was reported to be still collecting information from other Universities. On 12 November Council approved its recommendations that the celebrations run from April to October 1955 and that the Vice-Chancellors' Committee of the British Commonwealth be invited to meet in Melbourne in 1955. The destruction by fire of the Wilson Hall on 25 January 1952 and the expectation that the new ceremonial hall would not be completed until 1956 led to postponement of the celebrations until that year, as the Vice-Chancellor announced to Council on 15 March 1954.
