Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsUniversity committeeHistoryThe first Library Committee of the University of Melbourne Council was established in 1859, followed by the first Library Committee of the Professorial Board in 1886. A Library Committee representing both the Professorial Board and the Faculties was established in 1904. Since then, a Library Committee has existed under a variety of academic arrangements into the present. The University Statute 2.1 (consolidated 1961) established a department called the University of Melbourne Library, which comprised the Baillieu Library, (subsequently) thirteen branch libraries, and as many departmental collections as the Council or Library recommended. The statute provided that a Library Committee and a Library Users' Committee be constituted; the Library Committee first met in 1969.
