Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsLibrariansProfessional organisationsHistoryThe Professional Officers' Group was formed in March 1978 as a forum for professional Library staff without line responsibilities, and therefore not members of the Middle Management Group. The Librarian W.D. Richardson saw it as a means of allowing "discussion of matters of mutual concern relating to the operations of the Library", without limit the its terms of reference. The POG would hear speakers and discuss such matters as training and communication in the Library, but was failing to attract support before being abolished following a review of Library committees in 1995 which recommended that hierarchical committees should be abandoned in favour of focus groups to explore specific issues and to include staff not covered by existing groups.
