Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsTrade Union publicationsHistoryIn 1897 certain trade unions and sympathisers with the labour movement formed an organisation with the purpose of establishing a newspaper and undertaking general printing work for Labour organisations. It was registered as the Tocsin Printing & Publishing Society Ltd. and continued under that title until it became the Printing & Publishing Co-operative Society Ltd. in about 1906. In 1926 moves were made to merge the Society's interests in a new company known as the Industrial Printing and Publicity Coy. Ltd. Various attempts were made but without success until the Committee of Management sold the assets of the Society to the new company. Shares were held by the nominated representatives of the ALP and the Melbourne Trades Hall Council. The Society remained a registered company until 1942. The year before steps had been taken to cancel the registration of the Society. The interests of the individual shareholders were protected with the appointment of trustees. A major asset of the company was a broadcasting licence operated by. 3KZ Broadcasting Co Pty Ltd under agreement.
