Agent TypeOrganisationHistoryKeith Murdoch's foreword mentions that "this little collection" begins with Stephen Courtauld's gift of a Turner watercolour and some engravings, followed by gifts, mainly of works by contemporary Australian painters. The formation of the Society of Collectors, pledged to help the University Art Collection, with Sir Baldwin Spencer and Professor Marshall Hall playing a profound part in championing national art. The catalogue of acquisitions is in order of gift. Prepared by Franz Phillip and Hilda Fletcher. Not all are shown, but it was hoped to hold an Inaugural Exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in 1953.
