After graduating he was employed by the NSW Main Roads Board until 1933 when he was appointed Lecturer in Agricultural Engineering at Melbourne University. Vasey later became Senior Lecturer and Reader and retired in 1971. From 1936 he was a member and subsequently Chairman of committees of the Standards Association of Australia concerned with agricultural machinery, and was later officer-in-charge of tractor testing. Gilbert Vasey died on 26 November 1986.
