HistorySamuel McCulloch was one of eight oarsmen representing the University of Melbourne who won the inter-varsity boat race on 6 October 1888. The boat race involved teams representing the University of Adelaide, the University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney and was held on the Saltwater / Maribyrnong river.

McCulloch was the son of the Hon. William McCulloch (1832-1909) a pastoralist who early in his career successfully mined for gold at Mount Alexander and went onto become a leading figure in Victorian business and politics in the late nineteenth century. Last edited by: mbarrie@unimelb.edu.au
