It began as a Committee of the Town and Country Planning Association which, in 1949, presented the government of the day with well-researched overviews of existing parks and recommendations for new parks. The VNPA was formed ... to lobby for the creation of new parks and better management of existing ones. The area of national parks in 1949 was 313,717 acres (127011 ha.). It is now 2,5 million hectares which is 12 per cent of the area of this State. "The VNPA has been the main driving force behind the creation and expansion of most parks in this State" (Doug Humann in letter to Mark Richmond, 30 March 1995) Meeting 28 March 1952 decided to form VNPA, with corporate and individual members, to strive for the welfare of national parks and their preservation in perpetuity. Inaugural public meeting 23 July 1953. First president was P. Crosbie Morrison and first hon. sec. was J. Ros Garnet (who died 1998).Search records of this agent
