Agent TypeOrganisationActivities & OccupationsTrade UnionsHistoryThis union was formed in October, 1910, following a meeting of men employed in the various departments of daily newspaper offices called by an organiser of the Melbourne Typographical Society. The Union was first known as the Printing Trades General Workers' Union of Victoria, but changed its name to the present form in July, 1913. It was formed as an industrial union of all unorganised workers in the printing and publishing industry and the men mainly concerned were stereotypers, rotary machinists, publishers, warehousemen and general workers. There was an unsuccessful attempt in 1899 to form a similar union to be known as the Amalgamated Newspapers Employees Union.
