Moved to Canada and graduated in Mining Engineering at Uni of Toronto. Commenced work for Western Mining Corporation in 1934, serving in Australian Army during WW2 in WA and Bougainville. Following the war he worked with the Zinc Corporation, Broken Hill and in 1953 became Chief Geologist, Consolidated Zinc Proprietary. Following the merger creating CRA he became their Director of Exploration. Apart from his career as an applied geologist he became involved in the development of a number of novel theories on the formation and evol- ution of ore-bodies and directed the Baas Becking Geobiological Laby.
