Educated at St Catherine's Girls School, Toorak, she received her degree when she was 19 years old. Lemaire completed a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree in 1942, but was encouraged by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering to continue her studies, and in 1943 she completed a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. From 1944 Lemaire worked at Aeronautical Research Laboratories at Fisherman’s Bend, a division of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (later CSIRO), and worked until her retirement as Officer-in-Charge of the Aerodynamic Research Group. In the early 1960s she obtained a Masters of Aeronautical Engineering from Cornell University in the United States. Lemaire died on 27 October 2012, aged 89.
