He worked in his father's business in Brussels until he returned to study Law at Melbourne University in 1903. He soon abandoned his studies though and returned to Europe, where he began composing short piano works and songs. From 1910-1912 he studied at the Dresden Conservatory. In 1914 he married Elsa Redenbacher and was on honeymoon in Brussels when Germany invaded and they were interned in Frankfurt. Upon release they settled in England where Lennard continued to compose, adopting the pen-name of Alroy Fleming. In 1926 they returned to Germany, where some of his pieces were published and performed. In 1937 the Lennards moved to northern Italy, where they remained for the rest of their lives, except for the period of World War II when they were again interned. Lennard had suffered from incipient deafness since his youth; during the war he became completely deaf and was no longer able to compose. He died in 1961.Search records of this agent
