It provided information and a referral service for women seeking refuges and other support services. Volunteers to the Switchboard worked four- hourly shifts for twelve hours a day, seven days a week. In 1980 WLS received government funding on the condition that it added Women's Refuge Referral Service to its title. The WLS and WRRS then effectively ran two distinct services: the WRS had paid workers and the WLS was run by volunteers who gave information of women's liberation-related activities. In 1984 the two groups became officially autonomous. WLS closed down in 1992. This collection is No.17 of the Victorian Women's Liberation and Lesbian Feminist Archive
