Agent TypePersonActivities & OccupationsClergyHistoryStephen Yarnold was born in 1903 and educated at Ramsgate, Kent where his father was living while undergoing medical treatment. During the General Strike of 1926, Yarnold worked in numerous jobs until he migrated to Australia later in the year. In Melbourne he studied at Ormond College, spent some time in the Western District and worked in a Fitzroy mission in the midst of the depression. Yarnold was appointed chaplain of Scotch College in 1935, remaining there ten years and was notable for his prominent anti-war stance. In 1945, Yarnold resigned and briefly became an Army Chaplain in Darwin until he altered his career again and began writing scripts and making films for the Australian Religious Film Society. From 1950. Rev. Yarnold was Chaplain at the Union Memorial Church in North Melbourne, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria and assistant Presbyterian-Methodist Minister at Pentridge. A Stalwart supporter of the Australian Labor Party and an avowed protester against the Vietnam War.
