Subjects covered in letters: advice to regional centres, examinations, fees for lecturers, as well as notices and agendas of board meetings and preparations for the annual "Extension Day". Many letters were sent out to influential people, e.g. the Lord Mayor of Melbourne was asked to speak at the Town Hall on behalf of the extension movement. There are also replies to letters from people offering their services as extension lecturers.
The volume was inscribed by Maurice Brown, assistant to the Registrar, on 7 March 1940 as follows: "This volume was handed to me for custody by the retiring general Secretary of the W.E.A. (Workers' Education Association) Mr. S.D.
