IdentifierUMA-SR-000002673Extent114 boxesLinear Meterage13.68Scope and ContentThis series contains raw survey responses for the Survey of Living Conditions in Melbourne, conducted in 1966 in 3 stages by the Institute Of Applied Economic And Social Research led by Professor Ronald Henderson.
Stage 1 consisted of a survey of approximately 4000 randomly selected households. These were to be interviewed using a questionnaire intended to identify those in or near poverty at the time of the interview, as well as to gather information on the structure and general characteristics of the households concerned. 3869 surveys were completed in total.
Stage 2 of the survey consisted of a random selection of respondents found to be in or near poverty at the Stage 1 interview. Tthese consisted of a longer and more detailed questionnaire examining their economic circumstances during the past year and also factors in their background that had combined to bring them into poverty.
