IdentifierUMA-AG-000001741Activities & OccupationsArchitectsHistoryNorman Peebles was a pupil in the office of architecture firm Henderson & Smart, and likely moved with his employers when they partnered with Joseph Reed to form Reed, Henderson & Smart in 1883. Peebles later became the firm’s chief draftsman, and in that capacity drew up the initial plans for the domed Reading Room in what is now the State Library Victoria. He was admitted to partnership with Francis J. Smart at the time of the Library project, forming Smart, Tappin & Peebles in 1906, and subsequently worked with Francis Smart’s son Charles P. Smart and Edward A. Bates as Bates, Peebles & Smart from late 1907. Peebles retired in 1922 and died the following year.
