IdentifierUMA-ACE-20070060Extent47 boxes and photographsLinear Meterage9.42Scope and ContentIn 1973 on her retirement, Lucy Kerley commenced researching the history of the National Gallery School where she had been a student for a time and edited its student paper. This acquisition consists of the records of the National Gallery School which she gathered, along with her notes and ephemera regarding the School.
She left these records and her papers with the Library of the Victorian College of the Arts, the successor to the NGS.They were transferred to the University of Melbourne Archives sometime after the amalgamation of the VCA with the University of Melbourne.
The collection comprises student rolls and registers, student magazines, photographs, manuscripts, research notes, draft chapters for The History of the National Gallery School (unpublished), minutes, newspaper cuttings, exhibition catalogues, correspondence, trustees reports, original drawings, sketches and art work, architectural drawings, account books and ephemera. ArrangementThe records of the National Gallery Art School and Lucy Kerley's research notes on the School were transferred with Lucy Kerley's private papers. There was little order in the papers. The Archvists separated Kerley's personal papers from the records of the National Gallery Art School and Kerley's notes about it, creating two acquisitions. Kerley's personal papers are at Reference number 2007.0071.
The records of the National Gallery Art School were then sorted into series of related items such as the registers of students within the School. Kerley's research notes were sorted into groupings according to their source and apparent purpose.
Fragile student register volumes were photocopied to allow physicla access for research purposes. A selection were digitised in 2019.
