The control records describing the contents of each series from NMLS 1 to NMLS 257 were transferred to the University of Melbourne Archives (UMA) and formed the basis of UMA series descriptions.
The original control records for series NMLS 258-370 did not survive. All surviving series from 258-370 have been listed under UMA reference number: 2013.0006 and their previous NMLS number noted in this finding aid (refer to items 2013.0006.0117-2013.0370). Series missing from this sequence include 288, 289, 302, 306, 308, 339, 341, 343, 347, 350, 353 & 364 as material from these series could not be reliably identified. Records with no series number are also included in this finding aid (item number range: 2013.0006.0001-2013.0006.0116)
Series NMLS1-257 is described separately and each series has its own UMA reference number. Search the UMA online collection management database using search term National Mutual Association of Australasia to find these series.

Records date from 1870 a year after the company was formed and include policy registers, company minutes, financial records, home office 'HO' company letter series, correspondence sets created by international branches such as Fiji, India and South Africa.
