In this period, he was a member of several Government Members' Committees and held the portfolios of Army (1966-68), Education and Science (1968-69 and 1971-72) and Defence (1969-71). Consequently, the files deal with a wide range of portfolio, Government, political party and electorate matters. The subjects covered include Aborigines, armed services, Australian Labor Party, CSIRO, conservation, dairy industry, defence, state aid to schools, educational research, elections, F111 aircraft, foreign affairs, Malcolm Fraser's Ministerial appointments, manufacturing industries, overseas visits, Parliament and parliamentary procedures, individual politicians, rural reconstruction, universities and other tertiary institutions, Vietnam War and the wool industry.
