IdentifierUMA-SRE-20000062Extent2 volumesScope and ContentAlthough the Joint Committee of Heads of Colleges and the Professorial Board was incorporated as a standing committee of the Professorial Board in 1939, it was first appointed at the end of 1934. Its purpose was to prepare for a discussion of the college system in Australian universities, which took place at the Conference of Australian and New Zealand Universities in Adelaide 1937. The committee was to:-consider and report upon the place of residential colleges in the university system and in particular to: (i)state the existing situation in the University; (ii)define the nature of the objectives to be aimed at in any future developments, and (iii)suggest the best ways of fulfilling these objectives. The committee met infrequently, devoting itself initially to the study of the relationship between the colleges and the university and to preparing material for the conference prior to 1939. The committee stopped meeting after May 1945 and remained inactive until September 1968. Membership was comprised of the Heads of the various University Colleges, the Vice-Chancellor and the Chairman of the Professorial Board. There is no further reference to this committee after 1979.
