IdentifierUMA-SRE-20000138Extent1 volumeScope and ContentAt a meeting of the Library Committee on the 21st of September 1972 it was noted that the Professorial Board had suggested that it was necessary to establish a policy on admission control and asked Council to direct the Library Committee to set forward proposals for such control and obtain the views of the Board. It was agreed that:The Library Committee would appoint a sub-committee to be known as the Committee on Library Services,The sub-committee would report to the Library Committee by the end of the first term 1973 with the following considerations: . The present state of library services in the University . Any improvements in library services which may be desirable .The purpose and management of branch and departmental libraries, whether any change in this field is desirable and if so, how it should be brought about . Who should be entitled to use the libraries and make any changes to this policy if appropriate and, The sub-committee was to endeavour to find out the views of key members of the University regarding the form and level of library services. Membership of the sub-committee included the University Librarian, two professors and the Deputy Librarian by invitation. There is no further reference to this committee after a meeting held on the 2nd of August 1974. It was at this meeting that the sub-committee put forth a lengthy listof proposals and recommendations which would go to the Library Committee. Summary of Contents The minutes cover issues such as : Branch libraries; Policy of admission control; Extensions to the Baillieu Library; Space requirements and building issues relating to branch libraries; Library staffing; Library resources; Special collections-policy and management; Decentralisation of library facilities; Final summary of recommendations to the Library Committee on the subject of uses of theses deposited in the library, circulation control, flexible working hours for library staff and payment of casual staff including penalty rates and special allowances.
