IdentifierUMA-SRE-20000287Extentnot specifiedScope and ContentIn May 1967, the Chairman of the Professorial Board was asked to consider the establishment of a Committee for Aerial Photography. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Professorial Board on the 20th of June 1967 and the Committee was subsequently established. Its purpose was to consider and advise on all aspects of the acquisition and use of aerial photographs including: -Indexing, storing and obtaining aerial photographs -Techniques of aerial photo-interpretation -Methods of preparing maps from aerial photos. The committee was comprised of staff from the departments of Geology, Forestry, Surveying, Town and Regional Planning, Botany and Meteorology. In 1968, the officer-in-charge of the Audio-Visual Department was admitted to the membership of the committee. With the advent of Remote Sensor technology, the committee underwent a name change and became the Committee for Aerial Photography and Remote Sensing. On the 10th of December 1974, it was decided by the Professorial Board that the committee would not be reappointed. By the middle of 1975 it had ceased to exist. Summary of Contents Proceedings of meetings including:Committee objectives; collections of aerial photographs; photograph lists; use of aerial photographs in teaching of Mineralogy, Geology and Geography; suggestion for a postgraduate diploma in aerial photo-interpretation; sources of air photos and photomaps; aerial cameras; equipment; expeditions; publications and papers.
