[UMA-SR-000000029] Operations
Description
IdentifierUMA-SR-000000029Extentnot specifiedScope and ContentThis series includes records of all of the Shell operations other than refineries. The records include, in order: installations at Newport and Gore Bay, depots and other locations, projects and mines, services stations, distribution, exploration, aircraft services, pesticides and research.Newport and Gore Bay were Shell's busiest installations. Newport fed the Geelong refinery, while Gore Bay fed the Clyde refinery. Distribution refers to the transport and distribution of Shell products, mainly oil. This group covers the earliest distribution methods -from camelback across the country, through to modern road trains and tankers and provides a visual history of the development of transportation in Australia. There could potentially be some overlap for aviation researchers with the early aviation series. This series does not include the advertising aspect of early aviation, for example supplying fuel for early, path-breaking voyages. All aviation after the 1940s is covered in this series excepting records concerning the commemoration of the Vimy flight.Collection CategoryBusinessAccess StatusAccess restrictions apply for some itemsAccess Conditions
