IdentifierUMA-SRE-20030097Extent1 volumeScope and ContentThe proposal for the joint committee was born out of joint meetings at Ministerial Level between the Victorian Departments of Agriculture and Education in 1970. At this meeting, the terms of reference suggestd by the departmental meetings were adopted.These required the committee "to coordinated activities of the Departments of Agriculture and Education in the field of sub tertiary agricultural education, and to make appropriate recommendationsas to policy". Membership consisted of three members, including the chairman, from the Department of Agriculture, three from the Department of Education and one representing outside interests.The latter member was Dr N.M. Tulloh, acting Professor of Animal Husbandry at the University of Melbourne. On the occasion of the first meeting it was decided to focus on exploratory discussions rather than procedures, with a summary of proceedings to replace formal minutes. Deliberations of the committee included: A survey of agricultural education throughout Victoria, Discussion of Technical Schools Divisions Policy, Training for displace farmers, Department of Agriculture policy and principles for mid level programs. In 1975, with the pending establishment of the State Council on Agricultural Education, the committee members acknowledged that the need for the committee had passed.
